First winter Season Report By Heather Howe The start of winter has seen events at Friezalnd arena winding down getting ready for winter repairs. Oldham & District riding club are however still hosting a winter league dressage, a one of a kind competition for local riders throughout the duration of the winter months.

On 15/11/16 we held our AGM which was well supported by our members, paved the way to a new more challenging and more exhilarating show season for 2017. AS we welcome some new faces to

our committee we would also like to thank members who have decided to retire from their post for the many years of dedication they have given to the club, we look forward to seeing you having more time to compete with your horses this year. The 2017 season has some positive changes on the horizon to ensure we are riding club that is suitable for all levels of riding, competition and tuition.

The AGM raised a few refreshed ideas for teams, this year we are hoping to get our name back out on the competition map as one of good fun, good competition and having diverse teams. Would you like to be on our teams? We are looking for dressage riders of all levels to represent Oldham & District at many completions such as the Northern Liaison Group (NLG) league. We also have a great show jumping team who are looking for more team members of all levels, we will be attending grassroots competitions this year which open the team front up to more novice riders jumping from 2’ upwards. If you are interested please see the website for further details.

Membership for 2017 is going live on our website, we have different types of membership available from riding members to social members. Junior membership is available for anyone from the age of 15-17 (with parental consent & support) is able to join, and adult membership from 18+. Riding memberships provide access to members only perks such as additional lessons across all spheres and the possibility of progressing through riding exams. Social & ridden members gain access to demonstrations and specific club social evenings.

On December 10th the Friezland user group & its affiliates held their annual Horseman’s carol concert. This lovely event welcomes all verity of animals to attend and be blessed while dressed in their Christmas finest! This year was no exception with a good turnout, delicious mince pies & much needed hot mulled wine provided by the Friezland user group. A beautiful Christmas cake was donated by For the raffle to raise funds for our amazing facility. As we look forward to Christmas we are continuing our winter league dressage (22nd of January Public are welcome to watch for free) and preparing for some big maintenance projects. We would like to thank all FUG for its continued support with our mission to maintain the arena and the facility as a whole.

The season of 2017 will be filled with new and exciting opportunities, for riders, non-riders and sponsors alike. Are you interested in becoming a class sponsor or donate a trophy, for business promotion or perhaps in memory of a loved one? We would like to work in partnership with local businesses by promoting their business via our beautiful rosettes, championship sashes, newsletter publications and show schedule advertisement (which are distributed all over the northwest) in exchange for sponsorship. If you are interested in sponsorship please contact us via our website.
