What does a ballpoint pen have to do with spine surgery?

T

hanks to new, minimally invasive surgical technology, many patients

with herniated discs can now undergo surgery and be home the same day. At the South Carolina Spine Center, a fellowship-trained neurosurgeon can now remove herniated discs through an incision the size of a ballpoint pen. Working through a small opening with an endoscope, the spine surgeon can relieve radiating pain and numbness with minimal disruption to back tissue, resulting in quicker, less painful return to activity for patients.
