Redemption is Inclusive. Jesus redeems the entire mankind and the entire history

(past, present and future). No one is exclud- ed from the redemptive plan and act of Je- sus Christ. Romans 3:23 and 24 state that all have committed sin and redemption is now available to all, irrespective of caste, color, creed, gender, race, and status. This mes- sage of ‘redemption’ should be proclaimed to all. The entire human kind should hear this message without any further delay.

THE REDEEMER OF MANKIND

esus is referred to as a ‘Redeemer’; to redeem means ‘to buy back’, ‘to repurchase’ or ‘to ransom’.

It pri- marily speaks about the ‘saving sig-

nificance’. The book of Ruth refers to the concept of ‘kinsman-redeemer’ and Isaiah refers to God as the ‘Redeemer of Israel’. Many churches are named ‘Redeemer’. One of the famous landmarks of the world is the ‘Christ the Redeemer’ statue in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. One of the famous Old Tes- tament texts is ‘I know my Redeemer Lives’ which was stated by Job. Many songs (in- cluding Handel’s Messiah) mention ‘Jesus as redeemer’. The birth of Jesus Christ is a Good News to human beings and He came to this world as a redeemer. What does it mean to us today?

Redemption involves a Price. Christ left the glory of being with the Father and took the

form of man. Titus 2:14 says that ‘He gave himself for us’ and He paid the ransom (Mat- thew 20:28). Colossians 1:14 says that he bought the redemption through his blood. It

Redemption is Unique and Universal. Jesus Christ is unique God-Man and He came

as a universal savior/redeemer. This event of redemption can neither be compared nor repeated. It has no parallel in history. All the religions of the world talk about redemption but they cannot be compared with Jesus Christ. His work surpasses them all.

4 5 once and for all.

Redemption is Complete. The work of the redemption of human kind is completed It requires no further work.

On the cross, Jesus declared “It is finished”. As a redeemer, Jesus completely fulfilledthe debt owed by mankind – the debt of sin. He completed all the Old Testament prophe- cies in reference to redemption (as a seed, as a suffering servant and as a messenger).

Redemption is Definitive. Definitive means both perfect and best, and Jesus came

as both the perfect and the best redeemer. Through His redemption, He provides eternal life (Revelation 5:9-10), we have the right re- lationship with God (Romans 5:17), we are adopted into God’s family (Galatians 4:5) and we become God’s own possession (Ti- tus 2:13-14). This is a privilege.

This Christmas, what can we do? Let us en- sure that we have this assurance in our life - Jesus Christ has redeemed me. Christmas is a time of sharing; let us share the message of redemption to everyone in our neighbor- hood. It is a message of hope, it is a mes- sage of joy, it is a message of salvation, and it is a message of great value. Let us be- come the means, method and message of redemption this Christmas.
