DEFENDANT ‘CANNOT CONTINUE AS HE IS’

A PERSISTENT offender

appeared at Aberystwyth Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday (Sept 7) to face a theft charge and an additional charge of assault by beating. Gary Norman Bagnall’s solicitor

told the court that ‘his punishment will not be a soft option as he has had difficulties with drugs and alcohol. These elements are clearly central to his life and are very difficult cycles to get out of’. Bagnall, 46, of Westminster

Mews, pleaded guilty to both offences. He had previously pleaded not

guilty to the burglary at The Academy pub on Great Darkgate Street in Aberystwyth on December 16, 2015. Bagnall was then released on

unconditional bail following his initial appearance for the theft offence, to which he had pleaded not guilty. After that appearance, Bagnall

had been arrested for a further offence of assault by beating, which resulted in him appearing before Llanelli Magistrates. At that appearance, he had been

remanded in custody and entered a guilty plea to the outstanding charge before the Aberystwyth court.
