78 Sport Easy win for Aberaeron

Aberaeron (83-1) beat Aberystwyth II (82-8) by 9 wkts

ABERAERON eased to victory

over Aberystwyth Seconds on Saturday (Aug 13) as they won by nine wickets. Aberystwyth 2nd XI won the toss

and elected to bat but a dismal display saw them limp to 82-8 inside 23 overs. Iestyn Evans and Rees made a

good start for the seconds with Evans making 20 and Rees 17 before both were bowled by Neil Snowdon. Snowdon also bowled Anthony Evans for his third wicket and Ceri

John was then trapped leg before wicket by Hywel Rees for a score of eight.

Jon Morris only scored four runs

and was then bowled by Louis Fice while Augistine Benny was trapped leg before wicket by Hywel Rees for a duck.

Owen Keyworth was bowled by

Sion Lewis for two but it was Elgan Pugh who provided the most resistance to top score for his side. He scored 26 but was then caught

by Bleddyn Thomas off the bowling of Steff Rees. That meant they reached 82 but it

was not enough to present a challenge to Aberaeron.

They did lose a wicket in their

reply when Alexander Pitchford was caught off the bowling of Rees for a score of 10. However, Bleddyn Thomas and

Steff Rees guided Aberaeron to victory with plenty of time to spare. Thomas hit three fours as he

finished not out on 24 while Rees hit three fours and two sixes in a knock of 31.

That saw them reach their target

in 11 overs and the win gives them six points while Aber Seconds go home empty handed. The win keeps Aberaeron third in

the table and on Sunday (Aug 21) they are at home to Tregaron.

Commoners stun leaders

South Wales Association Division One Llandysul (240-5) drew with Skewen (200-7)

LLANDYSUL were forced to

settle for a draw on Saturday (Aug 13) as they could not bowl Skewen out.

Skewen won the toss and elected

to field but it was Llandysul who had the better time in the middle as they reached an excellent total of 240-5. Meurig Jones only made 12

before he fell to the bowling of Jordan Jones but Gary Williams and Llewelyn Hughes both looked in good form. Williams hit six fours as he made

his way to 41 while Hughes scored 55 from 79 balls before he was caught off the bowling of Stephen Jones. Rhidian Harris, who finished on

89 not out in Llandysul’s previous match, hit a four and a six as he made his way to 46 before being caught off the bowling of Jonathan Lewis. Ben Edkins also batted well,

hitting five fours and a six in a knock of 49 which came off only 29 balls, but he was then bowled by Stephen Jones. Carwyn Evans finished not out on 28 from 23 balls to help Llandysul

Llandysul settle for draw

to 240-5. Skewen’s Mark Williams and

Dean Kriescher got their side off to a good start in their reply as they shared 41 for the first wicket but they then fell in quick succession. Williams was first bowled by

Arfon Jones for 17 before Kriescher was caught by Rhidian Harris off the bowling of Iestyn Evans for 19. Jonathan Lewis and John Jones

then shared 55 for the third wicket partnership as they looked to set their team up for victory. Jones was then excellently run

out by Ieuan Paske for a score of 23 and Sam Owens followed soon after for a score of 10. Another good partnership of 46

followed between Lewis and Jordan Jones, but Lewis was eventually bowled by Harris for a score of 68 , which included 11 fours. Dean Jones then caught and

bowled Jordan Jones for 12 and Daniel Williams fell to the bowling of Farooq Shah soon after to derail Skewen’s chances. Daniel Rees and Andrew Rogers

finished not out on 23 and 11 respectively but Llandysul’s bowlers had done enough to restrict them and the match ended in a draw. The results see Llandysul pick

up 17 points while Skewen go away with eight points.
