last Olympic Games in London. He previously lived in Warnett Court and his nan, Betty Colyer, still lives in the town in Veles Road. He was selected for the 400 me-

tres hurdles and the four by 400 metres relay. Jack was featured in Town Talk,

aged 16, inSeptember 2008, under the headline "Jack is our Olympic prospect". From a very young age he was winning national and Euro- pean championships. Unfortu- nately he hit a hurdle at London 2012, but in the relay his team missed a bronzemedal by .01 of a second. Jack, who is pictured leaving for

Rio, was born in Snodland and at the age of three hemoved to Hythe with mum Niki. Four years later they moved to Cheriton, near Folkestone. Jack took a year out after the

2012 games, trained in Florida in 2014 with an American coach and the following year had to have a season off with a bad back.

He is now back in training with

his original coach in Canterbury, June Plews, who was the person who suggested to Jack that he tried hurdles as a young boy. Betty added that Jack has done extremely well in the last few months. He ran in the Anniversary Games in London and the Euro- pean Games in Amsterdam and has run qualifying times for Rio on a number of occasions.
