Board of Commissioners Park District Board

A Letter From The President sknitter@obparks.org

Sharon Knitter President

On behalf of the Oak Brook Park District Board of Park Commissioners and staff, I hope you and your family had a wonderful summer, and you were able to spend a good part of it outdoors. While the summer season always offers a wide variety of activities at the park district, the fall is almost even more action packed! I am thrilled to announce that we are launching two brand new and very different programs for you to enjoy in the coming months. I’m sure by now that you have heard that the park district has introduced five honey bee colonies to Dean Nature Sanctuary. Not only have the bees acclimated well to their new home, they have begun producing honey! Oak Brook Park District, in conjunction with Sweet Comb Chicago and the Oak Brook Park District Foundation, is very proud to make this new, hyper-local native wildflower honey available for you to enjoy with your family. By the time this letter has been published, or very soon afterwards, Oh! Bee Parks Honey will be available for purchase at the Family Recreation Center and Tennis Center. Please watch www.obparks.org and www.obparksfoundation.org for more information.

This fall, we are also adding the Haunted Hustle - a new, recreational 5K race that will take place on Saturday, October 29. What makes this event so unique is that it will be held at night in Central Park! Participants are encouraged to wear costumes, and we will kick off the event with a Spooky Sprint for kids. These new programs are in addition to our signature special events which include Oktoberfest, Haunted Forest, and the Aquatic Pumpkin Hunt!

Lastly, as you know, it is important to the commissioners and staff that we continue to provide the premiere programs and services that helped us earn the National Gold Medal distinction as one of the best park districts in the United States. This being said, I would like to announce that the Oak Brook Park District will be performing a comprehensive community wide survey this season. Please watch your mailboxes and inboxes for information regarding this project. Your feedback is integral in helping to ensure that we are meeting the recreational needs of our residents and continuing our work in helping our community stay happy, fit, and active. The results of this survey will aid in the development and implementation of new programming, project prioritization, and more. We hope that you will look through the following pages and take advantage of all the opportunities the Oak Brook Park District has provided to help you be your very best and feel your very best!
