Revolucion de Cuba O

ccupying a Grade I listed site in the World Heritage Site of Albert Dock; Revolucion de Cuba, operated by Revolution Bars Group PLC, has brought an

experience like no other to Liverpool. Following the success of sister sites in cities such as Manchester and Nottingham, its arrival was much anticipated. As with other Revolucion sites, Julian

Taylor Design Associates (JTDA) were tasked with the design challenge of creating the Cuban spirit, although this time within an iconic former warehouse site. With low ceiling heights and restrictions on fixings to the existing flagstone floors, and brick vaulted ceilings and walls, JTDA’s approach had to be different for this venue. Julian Taylor explains “As with every site, we’re sensitive to the nature of the

building, and work with the client to ensure the offer is tailored to the customers of that site. Characteristically Revolucion de Cuba sites have an abundance of timber and tiled wall and floor finishes to add softness and warmth, whereas at Albert Dock we have largely focused on lighting, fixed seating and furniture to create that same authentic Cuban inspired feel”. Te site is separated into 3 main areas, each

with its own bar. Te largest on the ground floor and mezzanine is a bright and colourful space tailored to the dining experience, with a spectacular view over the dock. Inspired by the eclectic mix of colours and patterns on any street in Havana, the design compliments the imposing material features of the site. JTDA have carefully selected finishes such as decorative metal screens, louvre shutters, tiled planters and weathered paint finishes to develop the narrative, whilst colourful mosaic table tops and artwork paired with patterned upholstery and planting add the softness and comfort. Te backlit fret cut antique brass bar softly glows to become the main attraction, setting the ambience as day turns to night whilst the decorative, illuminated staircase gently guides you upstairs to the clubroom and Havana bar. Te clubroom is home to salsa dancing

classes throughout the week before becoming the main party later into the evening, with a stage for live music. Inspired by traditional

Cuban bars, the rich leathers and chandeliers are the signature element of any Revolucion de Cuba club room. Adjoining the club room is the horseshoe shaped Havana bar where premium rums can be sampled within intimate and plush surroundings. Revolucion de Cuba, Albert Dock, 22 Edward Pavilion, Liverpool.
