4 Heard round the watering trough

Howdy Amigos’, How is everyone holding up in the, sometimes unbearable, heat of summer? Its important that you and your horses stay hydrated and cool. Here’s a tip to keep them drinking cool water and replenish salt and minerals lost in sweating...add a good salt and mineral granulated mix into there feed or supple- ments! Will help their happiness. Hose them down on really hot days and especially after riding; any rid- ing that is strenuous enough to cause them to sweat. If they are not sweating that is a BIG prob and you need to call your vet immediately...horses can just drop dead from not sweating. It’s a metabolic dysfunction, so get on it.

When I started tCmag it was with the intention of raising awareness about the plight of our wild mustangs in the U.S.A. Since its inception we have increased our global readership ten-fold and continue to do so with each issue except now tCmag is expand- ing its coverage to include all equine breeds and all animals living in stress and threatened with slaughter for human consumption. Our mission is to educate people and to induce them to get involved and help the horses and all animals. Heaven knows, every species is in trouble around the world.

FYI, I am the proud owner of an OTTB mare (off track thoroughbred) named Rai. I’ve had her since she was 2 years-old. Took her off the track at 4 and she is now 14. She is my constant companion, loyal friend and she is funny as hell. She rides under a western saddle, no bit and no shoes. She will do anything I ask of her and she always gives it her all...she is my theta potato. We are unconventional and I am certain folks at the barn think we are left of center but we don’t mind. We know who we are.

Happy horsin’ around! Besos & Gracias, Calamity Cate Crismani
