Fagerli claims Senior Am Tour win at Bermuda Run T

om Fagerli of Yadkinville claimed his first win of the year when the Senior Amateur Tour visited

Bermuda Run on June 9 and he needed a couple extra holes to do it. Playing Bermuda Run Country

Club’s 6,447-yard West Course, Fagerli closed strong for a 78 and tied Greg Mabe of High Point and Dan Anthony of Thomasville atop the Championship Flight leaderboard. As is the case in all first-place ties on

the Senior Tour, the outcome is settled on the course rather than a scorecard match. Fagerli, who closed his round by playing the final seven holes even par, scrambled for a par on the first playoff hole after missing the green. He rolled in an 8-footer to tie Anthony, who two-putted from 25 feet. Mabe was eliminated when he missed the green and couldn’t get up and down. Fagerli ended it on the second play-

off hole when he made a routine par and Anthony’s par bid from seven feet was off the mark.

Anthony continues to lead the season-

long points list with 3,248 while second- place Joey Moffitt of High Point has 2,319. There are five events remaining on the schedule. One of the best scores at Bermuda Run

came out of the B Flight, which featured a field of 22 players. Playing from 6,104 yards, Allen Kayler of Winston-Salem fired a 75 and notched a two-shot win over Ron Gburek of Lewisville with Dexter Barbee of Burlington and Terry Scarlette of High Point also breaking 80. Kayler was making his first tour appearance since April and the 75 was eight shots better than his pre- vious standard. Gburek stands second in the points

race as he tries to close the gap on Huston Shaw of Winston-Salem. Homer Prevatte of Burlington is third

on the B Flight points list after claiming his second win of the year in the June 16 event at Whispering Woods Golf Club. His 80 produced a one-shot margin over Dick Kuehl of Sanford.

In the A Flight, Ron Brady of McLeansville missed the top 10 in his last two events but continues to hold a solid lead in the points race. Frank Bunn, who had a couple of top fives in June, is second. The C Flight features the tightest race

on the Senior Tour with Brian Costine of Raleigh (1,986 points) holding a slight lead over Jim Prouty of Pittsboro (1,923 points). Jerry Thorne (1,868) and Lewis Burgman (1,867) are also in contention as the tour heads into its final three months. Costine’s 85 nipped Donald Brown of Kernersville by two shots in the Whispering Woods event. Prouty picked up the win at Bermuda Run with his 81 edging Dan Whalen of Greensboro by a single stroke.
