C Teanary Council

Te Canary Council began its life in 1984 as an off-shoot of the National Council for Aviculture. Delegates from the ten canary sections (Border, Fife, Irish Fancy, Lizard, Blue Lizard, Norwich, Rare and Old Varieties Yorkshire, and Hosos) now meet at least twice a year to discuss and act upon matters appertaining to the canary fancy and aviculture as a whole. Te Canary Council’s aims and objectives are:

➤ To encourage the keeping, breeding, exhibition/contest and study of all recognised breeds of domestic canary throughout Great Britain and Northern Ireland. ➤ To affiliate to and uphold the rules and objectives of the National Council for Avi- culture (NCA). ➤ To make representations, either directly or through the NCA to statutory bodies, national organisations and government departments and other on matters appertain- ing to the Canary Fancy. ➤ To send representatives to the meetings of, and otherwise participate in, the activi- ties of the NCA. ➤ To encourage governing bodies of each variety domestic canary to become members of the Canary Council. ➤ To organise shows, events, campaigns, promotions or other such activities in the interests of the canary fancy. ➤ To do anything else the Canary Council considers appropriate and reasonable to achieve its objectives.

■ Te Canary Council is proud to support the National Exhibition and awards trophies for Best unflighted Canary, Best White Unflighted Canary and Best Unflighted Junior Canary in show. ■ Te Canary Council has produced a booklet “Canary Basics” on the care requirements of canaries as pets or hobbyist livestock.
