LONDON LUXURY of

Old Royal Naval College Up Close & Personal

The Old Royal Naval College (ORNC) is one of London’s ‘hidden gems’ and home to the Painted Hall - the greatest piece of decorative painting in England described as ‘the Sistine Chapel of the UK’. The walls and ceilings were painted

by Sir

James Thornhill between 1708 and 1727. In 2016 a major conservation project will commence to restore the ceiling to its former glory. Scaffolding will be erected and members of the public will be invited to mount the scaffold and get up close to the ancient ceiling.

Designed by Sir Christopher Wren, the Old Royal Naval college is one of the most important ensembles in European

baroque architecture. Today this historic landmark welcomes thousands of visitors from around the world and is the home of three unique and free to visit attractions; the Painted Hall, the Chapel, and the Discover Greenwich visitor centre. The ORNC is free to all visitors and is open daily from 10.00-17.00.
