Rotary Club of Sées-Gacé exchange visit

The group, seven in all, arrived mid afternoon on Friday 16th October.

A very pleasant group - Christian and Martine Meyer and François Froger who stayed with Roger and Sue Watts, Luc and Martine Potdevin who stayed with Bjorn and Sue and Denis and Noili Morineau who stayed with Colin and Chris.

Their visit began with a welcome reception at 24 Berens Road, Shrivenham on the Friday evening and on Saturday we took the 66 bus to Oxford for a walking tour conducted by Rtn Philip Bobby of Oxford Isis club aided by John Comely from Shrivenham as interpreter.

Oxford was heaving with gown and mortar board clad students as it was “Fresher’s Day” which added much to the atmosphere for our visitors. After lunch at Quod Brasserie in Oxford High our visitors had a free afternoon during which most of the group enjoyed a few hours in the Covered Market.

In the evening we assembled for dinner at the Woodman.

On Sunday Roger Watts organised a private visit to the top of the Folly Tower which they thoroughly enjoyed and we rounded off the morning in the Quad coffee shop where we were served full English afternoon tea (even though it was still morning).

Our French friends left Faringdon at around midday. On their way to the Channel Tunnel, they stopped in Canterbury for a few hours and were then delayed at the Tunnel for 2.5 hours by migrants.

All in all a very successful, albeit brief, exchange visit. Colin Holman
