The event was hosted by the Greater Hillsborough County Fair whose Manager, Tom Umiker is the current President of the Florida Feder- ation of Fairs; and the Florida State Fair in provid- ing their facilities for the meeting. two Florida Fairs from throughout the state gathered at the State Fairgrounds for the two day event. The event kicked off Friday afternoon with a presenta- tion on an “ADA Case Study” by Don Frenkel and Felecia Chivington from the Pensacola Interstate Fair. The Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services was represented by Cheryl Flood, Danny Raulerson, Dr. Maxwell, and John Court. Dr. Maxwell and John Court gave an update on “Avian Influenza and Its Impact on Your Fair.” Paul Davis and Lee Bakst with the Florida Straw- berry Festival gave a presentation on “Conducting an Economic Impact Study in conjunction with your Chamber” and then Stacey Wade with the Central Florida Fair finished the afternoon with a session on “Listen, Learn, and Copy.” On Friday evening the Greater Hillsborough


County Fair hosted a dinner with Bluegrass entertainment at their fair- grounds that was co-sponsored with EMC Tickets LLC. It was a great evening with great food, a relaxing format, and time to network with all of our Florida Fair friends. Saturday morning’s program


kicked off with a presentation “Less is More – Or More is More: Examin- ing the Impact of a Reduction or Increase of Fair Length” by Tom Umiker, Greater Hillsborough Coun- ty Fair and Shawn Krauel, Central Florida Fair. The “keynote” speaker for the event was Bobby McLamb, an Association member of the Florida Federation of Fairs and a certified Dale Carnegie Instructor, who en- thralled the group with a program on “Finding The Leader In You and Goal Setting.” Bobby had presented this workshop at the Convention in

May and it was so popular that he was asked to attend as the main program for the Summer Work- shop. The group then separated into sessions for Open


Forum Discussions covering a wide range of topics that included: Manager’s Chit Chat (for Fairs with staffs of 5 or more) moderated by Rick Vymlatil; Manager’s Chit Chat (for Fairs with staffs of 4 or less) moderated by Tom Umiker; Concessions and Commercial Exhibits moderated by Jeaneen Ste- phens from the South Florida Fair; Gates and Ad- missions Procedures and Systems moderated by Bill Olson from the Greater Jacksonville Ag Fair; Com- petitive Exhibits moderated by Pat Cookson with the Collier County Fair; and Ag Issues moderated by Stacey Wade with the Central Florida Fair. The event wrapped up by noon with door prizes


and a special thanks to the sponsors as listed on page 5.
