On our cover: Marieke van Orsoy de Flines, Xanthe Brookes, Fergus White and Mitchell Baber (back, l-r) with Jami Kerrigan, Luke Walsh and Ruby Colwell (front, l-r) make up The Big Gus and Courtney Hate, two bands from Green Bay High School who competed in the final of this year’s SmokeFreeRockQuest – the first time that two bands from the same school have ever done this in the 27-year history of the competition. For news on another talented local SFRQ winner see our story on page 20.

Dear Reader, In these days of junk mail, spam (and scam) emails and e-marketing, some

things don’t change. We still like having magazines to read and we like to leave them lying around to dip into or refer to when we feel like it – and yes, we also prefer to browse through a magazine to find local businesses or service providers without them pestering us by email or phone. At The Fringe we understand this, and we also understand that we can’t stand

still. Change is ever-present. In this issue we are trialling a few new layout and design ideas – to give our articles, photos and advertisements more space and to make things easier to read. This includes both new typefaces and a new layout grid on some pages. But it is only a trial. After all, this is ‘your’ magazine. Tell us what you think. Do

you like what we have done or is it confusing? And while you’re at it, you could tell us what you like or dislike most about The Fringe. Are there things that you think we should change? Or things that we should never dream of changing? Do you have any other suggestions or comments? Let us know what you think by writing to The Fringe at PO Box 60-469,

Titirangi or emailing info@fringemedia.co.nz. To thank you for your input, we’ll put you in a draw for a $100 dinner voucher at one of our local eateries. We’ll draw the winner on October 14, 2015. We look forward to hearing from you.

Congratulations to L Molnar of Laingholm who won last month’s competition for two tickets to Titirangi Theatre’s Abelard and Eloise.
