OPERATIONS & MAINTENANCE Control Centre reaches 1 year milestone

RES has been a pioneer in the renewable energy field for 30 years having built over 9 GW of plant and operating 1.3 GW of plant globally. In 2014 the company expanded the services it provides to owners of renewable energy infrastructure by opening a custom designed 24 hour control centre in Glasgow.

They also allow analysis of plant performance to identify any shortfalls and ensure remediation plans are developed by the asset management teams to return plant to peak performance as quickly as possible.

INTERFACE

The Control Centre interfaces with wind and solar power projects managed by RES and provides services to other infrastructure assets too. As new technologies develop the Control Centre is exploring services to support these emerging opportunities e.g. energy storage and private wires.

BUILDING ON SUCCESS More than one year on from the formal opening of the control centre its Manager Alex Craw is determined to build on this success, “We have a diverse team of controllers who bring

The control centre monitors power production in real time and controls access to projects ensuring adherence to best practice standards for safety and quality.

INTEGRATION

Established during 2014, the control centre took just four months to safely integrate the entire RES UK and Ireland portfolio. It now employs eight full-time staff, working 24/7, 365 days per year monitoring and overseeing the assets and the work of the maintenance teams on site.

TAILOR MADE SERVICES RES has developed a number of tailor made data monitoring, recording and reporting systems which are all overseen by the control centre. These systems allow the control centre to see power production in real time and respond to outages quickly.

Over the last year the control centre has safely controlled nearly 6,000 jobs, ensuring that each job has a safe system of work in place and that everyone goes home safely at the end of each day.

their own unique perspective to the services we can offer and we look forward to the twin challenge of expanding our client services while also developing new services to support the emerging renewable energy technologies.”
