LIFTING, HANDLING & PILING

FEATURE SPONSOR

Successfully deployment of new vibro lifting tool

During its first commercial application, the newly developed Vibro Lifting Tool (VLT) of CAPE Holland has successfully installed 4 piles in up to 90m water depth. This installation is part of the pre-piling project for the Culzean Wellhead Platform jacket which will be installed next year.

The VLT was used as a stabbing tool to install all 4 piles in one sequence to stable depth through a template without any tool change. Negating the need for a tool change meant it was possible to install all 4 piles in just one 12 hour shift to the predicted penetration depths, which resulted in a significant time saving.

MAJOR MILESTONE

CAPE Holland’s CEO Laurens de Neef commented “This is a major milestone for our company and has once again shown the potential of the VLT by demonstrating that this approach contributes to improved productivity and safety. It increases the pile installation rates by optimising crane handling operations with an added advantage of reducing the amount of required equipment on deck.”

He added “I am very proud of our team, who have worked extremely hard over the past year to develop the VLT for its first application.”

LEADING THE WAY

Dutch vibro-piling specialist CAPE Holland has successfully developed the application of vibro-hammers for offshore purposes and has been leading the way in using multiple linked vibro-hammers in both offshore wind and the oil & gas industry.

The latest development for reducing the cost of installation and noise emissions has resulted in the Vibro Lifting Tool (VLT), a Lloyd’s Register certified lifting appliance which can be configured with an upending option. This can significantly save on the installation time by reducing the number of handling operations.

VLT OPERATIONAL DETAIL

The VLT is able to pick up a stored pile (up to 1600t), upend it to a vertical position, lift it to the correct position and drive it down (correcting verticality while driving if necessary) in one single handling operation without the need of a gripper or seabed installation frame.

Due to the modular design the equipment can be deployed for the installation of a large range of piles, from small anchor piles to very large XXL monopiles and anything in between.

The VLT is the latest development of CAPE Holland described in more detail within this article.

TANDEM

The Tandem consist of two CV-320 vibro hammers with a combined eccentric moment of 640 kgm and provides 13,706 kN of centrifugal force. This Lloyd’s Register certified lifting appliance is capable of handling and installing piles with a pile diameter from 2,900 mm up to 5,100 mm with the standard OC-300 Clamps.

CAPE Holland Seaway Heavy Lifting

AND JUST TO PROVE ITS WORTH… Earlier this year CAPE Holland officially handed over a Tandem CV-320 Vibro Lifting Tool (VLT) to Seaway Heavy Lifting during the CAPE Holland Product Launch.

REPLACEMENT

This new acquisition replaces the tandem vibro set which Seaway Heavy Lifting purchased from CAPE Holland in 2012 after a successful deployment during the monopile installation project of Riffgat OWF.
