2013 Convention/Reunion Plans Underway

By Dennis Barnett Plans are already underway for this

year’s Convention/Reunion. We are back to our traditional Columbus Day weekend gala with the event going from 10-13 October; so mark your calendars. We have all of our tra- ditional events scheduled, but also are add- ing a few new gatherings. We will start off with the Early Bird Social at Two Trees on Thursday evening. Friday morning we will head to Gator Lakes for our golf tourney. We will also add a new event with a 5k fun run/walk on Hurlburt, site to be announced. Friday evening will be our annual fish fry at Quality Inn. Saturday morning we will hold our annual business meeting but we are add- ing a Heritage and Current events seminar at the Hurlburt Soundside with a continental breakfast. We will ask some of our more se- nior members to recount some of the events of the early Air Commandos and couple that

with commanders and staff from Hurlburt to bring us up to date with the current com- mandos that have been engaged in combat for 12 years. This will be followed with our annual business meeting and elections. Our banquet will again be held at the Emerald Coast Convention Center with a host of AF- SOC level awards presented along with the Hall of Fame inductions. We have invited a very well known and respected speaker as our guest of honor but at the time of this publication we have not had final confirma- tion. Sunday will bring us to Hurlburt’s Air Park for our Memorial ceremony. This will be followed by the regular barbecue back at Quality Inn along with our traditional auction and Commando Cash drawing. We have secured a number of rooms at Qual- ity and you can make your reservations at

This year, ACA split the proceeds with the That Other’s May Live Foundation, of which Mike is Chairman of the Board. One of Mike’s employees, Nic Dezinski worked tirelessly with coordination and planning for the event held at the North Light Yacht Club in Niceville, FL. We are especially appreciative of Thérèse van Gogh and the North Light Marina staff for allowing us to use their facilities again this year. PTC had a number of other volunteers that con- tributed to the overall success of this event. Our own Shannon Pressley and Jeanette Moore were instrumental, as always, in ACA prep and coordination of the event. Other
