This passage is written with the backdrop of the Isthmian games - the equivalent of our Olympics which were held every two years ten miles outside the city of Corinth.

It’s a great illustration for us in our race of faith

If we want to be successful in our race of faith there are several practical things we can do.

Preparation and Training 1 Corinthians 9:25 “Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training.”

Stay on track Hebrews 12:1 “Let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”

Wear the right clothes Hebrews 12:1 “Let us throw off everything that hinders.”

Run with passion and zeal 1 Corinthians 9:24 “Run in such a way as to get the prize.”

Don’t stop Galatians 5:7 “You were running a good race. Who cut in on you to keep you from obeying the truth?”

Finish the race and take the prize Phil 3:14 “I press on towards the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenwards

in Christ Jesus.”

A runner in the ancient games of the Greco-Roman world won the final race and the prize was a laurel wreath. Someone said to him – “Did you do all that training and run that whole race just for a laurel wreath?” He replied – “No I did that training and ran that race to win it so I could stand before my emperor and receive his praise and his reward.”

This race of faith that we are all called to run will gain us the prize of standing before our Lord and King and hearing those words – “Well done my good and faithful servant.”

Let’s keep on track! God Bless You

Pastor Mike
