Message from the Pastor

I was thinking the other day how much our life is like running a race – the race of faith. In the Bible I came across two accounts of two people who were running.

In Acts 20:29-30 we read this: “The Spirit told Philip, ‘Go to that chariot and stay near it.’ Then Philip ran up to the chariot.”

In Jonah 1:2-3 God says to Jonah: “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.’ But Jonah ran away from the Lord and headed for Tarshish.”

One man ran to his calling and the other ran away from his calling.

Whether we like it or not we are all running – the question really is this – are we running towards the call of God on our lives or are we running away from that call?

Paul when writing to the Corinthian church uses the race as an illustration in his first letter to them

“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize. Everyone who competes in the games goes into strict training. They do it to get a crown that will not last; but we do it to get a crown that will last for ever. Therefore I do not run like someone running aimlessly; I do not fight like a boxer beating the air.” (1 Cor 9:24-26)
