Academic Year 2014-2015 STUDENT DEVELOPMENT AND PROFESSIONAL CONFERENCES

Kari Hillwig (Pedagogy/APE) presented research critiques and literature reviews at the Western Society for Kinesiology and Wellness (WSKW) in October, 2014.

Two of our students, Crystal Rivas and Marisela Velasco, were selected to attend the national conference of Hispanic Association of College and Universities.

Dr. Aaron Moffett is currently representing CSUSB as a Program Coordinator for the US Air Force and asked two of our students, Amanda Ostrander and Sarah Leighton to assist him with exercise science and anatomical assessments for classification of the Warriors so that athletes are competing with other athletes with similar functional abilities. They also assisted him with conducting a research project assessing the effect of the camp and competition on the quality of life of our Airmen. This has provided a great opportunity to our students experience with this specialized population.

CAHPERD CONFERENCE, March 5th

-8th

, 2015

Several of our Pedagogy students were selected out of departmental applicants to attend the California Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CAHPERD) Conference that was held in Los Angeles, California. The majors were given the opportunity to participate in sessions related to their future career aspirations. These sessions included but were not limited to information about best teaching practices, lesson planning, and current research in the field. Perhaps of most importance was the opportunity for them to meet future colleagues. Along with their attendance at the conference, the students are now members of CAHPERD and have the ability to stay connected with state leaders in physical education, recreation and dance. Entry fees for the attendees were paid for through the efforts of KSA, KSA President Sarah Leighton, Dr. Gentry and Dr. Dabbs.
