Academic Year 2014-2015 STUDENT COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT 2014 Ontario Reign Hockey Performance Testing

Dr. Dabbs, Professor Davis, Professor Beaudette, and a group of their Kinesiology students volunteered with the Ontario Reign Hockey Team performance testing with their athletes. The students were able to practice their testing skills on elite athletes and were able to tour the facilities, as well as working with high level professionals in the sports medicine field. Many of our students were asked to come back and volunteer to help in future performance testing. Dr. Dabbs plans on bringing more students to the facility next year for pre-season performance testing.

Dr. Oh and her students went to Redlands YMCA HoopShots Basketball Program Volunteers (mainly KINE 311 and 332 students) HoopShots Basketball is a program for the individuals with developmental disabilities.

2015 Parent Summit: San Bernardino School District - April 18th

, 2015

A wonderful group of our Pedagogy students volunteered their time to help at the San Bernardino School District’s 2015 Parent Summit at Arroyo Valley High School. While the parents of the 100+ elementary students were in sessions regarding math, English language arts and technology, their children were being physically educated through various activity stations on the school’s fields. Our undergraduates assisted and led activities created by Amy Gazzaniga, the Elementary Physical Education Coordinator in the district, and several other elementary physical educators from the district. At the end of the event, the elementary students were given the opportunity to win prizes (bikes, sports equipment, etc.) that were donated for the event. The event was a huge success and was followed by a discussion of future collaborations between the CSUSB Pedagogy department and the teachers in the school district.

“The teachers had nothing but wonderful things to say about the Pedagogy students in attendance. It was an excellent opportunity for our students to observe and learn from high quality physical educators in the district. They did an excellent job of representing themselves and our department.” – Dr. Gentry
