Posh baby gear Right royal trend for British clothes By Anna Ruggiero

Spring has finally sprung and now baby fever has hit Britain all over again thanks to the arrival of new Royal baby, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. To establish exactly what the fashion-

conscious infant should be sporting in 2015, Anna Ruggiero caught up with British childrenswear brand, Schmuncki to find out what’s trending at the moment and how the arrival of a royal baby can affect the popularity of British made ‘posh baby gear’. Mum of two boys, Helen Walters founded

Shmuncki to market luxury, comfortable and wriggle-free baby clothes. She set about designing a British-made collection that would look good and feel amazing and she soon discovered the arrival of a royal baby influences key clothing trends and buying habits.

Helen said: “The clothes worn by Prince

George (below) and the new baby become trends very quickly and also encourage a lot more interest in British babywear which is great. “Last year saw a real trend in London

based designs with royal guards and beefeaters featuring heavily across a lot of the designers’ collections. The royals certainly have an effect on the market. “I’m a huge fan of classic design and

passionate about British production and knowing the origins of your product. The royals certainly seem to embody those principles and that’s often reflected in their buying habits. I love that Kate recycles her clothes and has key pieces that she obviously loves.” Trends can change like the wind, but one common pattern that is working its way through the giftware industry is that ‘less is more’ and that consumers and parents are much savvier and more aware of value rather than price. This is great news for British

design houses such as Schmuncki and should continue the enthusiasm for ‘quality over quantity’ buying behaviour.
