Fragrant Gifts

Light up your candle shelves By Jonathan Craymer

Customers looking for a more stylish way to keep the mozzies away from the garden barbecue this Summer? Then look no further than the jute-look Citronella candles from Bolsius - launched at this year’s Spring Fair. They caught our eye

because of the clever way these filled jars feature an attractive ‘woven’ look, but are in fact made of clay. The Citronella candles

“we try to take a basic concept and give it a twist”

form part of the company’s Citronella Garden range, designed to complement Bolsius’ other Spring and Summer lines - Spring Party and Vivid Flowers. The latter, as the name suggests, is

intended to mimic the vibrant colours of nature in bloom, bathed in sunlight. Yellow, orange and green feature in its palette.

By way of a complete change at

least graphically, there’s the Gentle Geometric range – again featuring filled glass jars - but as the name suggests there are strong geometric patterns with gentler colours, offering blue, green and pink in attractive pastel shades, making the products interesting yet easy on the eye. There’s also an extended Summer Lounge range in colours that reflect the sun, the sea and the air.

The year-round Aromatic pick

‘n mix range titled Creations lets buyers design their own fragrance

candles from an impressive range of scented wax melts and are part of Bolsius’ core Aromatic range.

The company’s Autumn Winter ranges are already launched and include Hazy Horizons and Star Fantasy, a strong design of stars, stripes, ribbons and spots in anthracite, white, silver and red. These new seasonal lines introduced regularly keep the product selection fresh and contemporary. Bolsius is widely stocked in gift and department

stores as well as garden centres and is sold throughout Europe. This long-established Dutch company has lots of rivals but Bolsius remains one of the largest European makers of candles, exporting to 50 countries. John Barthorpe, UK sales manager said: “We try

to take a basic concept and then give it a twist, as witnessed by our Citronella Garden range for example. The scent of herbs and use of bright colours has been added to the more traditional Citronella yellow to offer something more sophisticated.”
