Beach Garden and Horticultural Society Private Gardens in the Beach Tour June 21, 12 a.m. to 5 p.m. Join in for the annual tour which will feature a variety of gardening styles and garden sizes. Are You Ready for Spring?


1. Slugs are attracted to copper. 2. A herbaceous border is made up of annuals, perennials and shrubs. 3. Roses don’t like wet feet. 4. Ants like aphids. 5. Chipmunks and squirrels love to eat your tulip and daffodil bulbs.

6. The first thing to do when the snow melts is to wake up your lawn with a good raking.


7. If your bulbs don’t come up, you probably planted them upside down.


8. For bigger peony blooms, pile topsoil on the emerging sprouts early in the spring.


9. When planting potatoes, line the trenches with papery onion and garlic skins to ward off potato bugs.
