MADE in Bridge of Allan

Here in Bridge of Allan we have a number of businesses who specialise in producing their own unique designs, brands and award-winning food and drink. We are very proud to offer such a diverse range of products whether it be tweed and cashmere or a brand new brew from our very own brewery.

Allanwater Brewery If you voyage behind the two-centuries old Queens Hotel and follow the somewhat misleading signs, you may stumble across what has been dubbed one of Scotland’s hidden gems; Scotland’s smallest commercial brewery, traditional pub and visitor centre; the Allanwater Brewhouse.

As you enter the Brewhouse you are greeted by the smell of hops and the sound of the crackling wood burning stove. It’s impossible not to notice the passion this shrine of real ale has for the drink industry. Hundreds, if not thousands of bottles from all over the globe line the walls of the pub alongside antique beer memorabilia.

The Allanwater Cafe The Allanwater cafe opened its doors in 1902 and was run by Ronaldo Togneri, the present owners, Adrian, Neill, Gillian and Gavin’s great-grandfather. Now run by the fourth generation of the family, the Cafe has some amazing videos on their website on the history of the shop, told by their Dad, Maurice Bechelli. The cafe has had many refurbishments over the years, but the main one was the large extension which opened in 2006. This aside, you can still queue for tables at the weekends, so get there quick.

Recently, the Bechelli’s have introduced some interestingly flavoured ice creams, saying; “Vanilla is still by far the favourite amongst our customers. Some other favourites include raspberry ripple, Turkish delight, ferrero rocher and of course the kid’s favourite blue moon”.

“It’s changed a lot since it first opened as a purpose built brewery with a visitor centre. Now we see ourselves as a place that regulars and tourists can visit whenever they like as we are open seven days a week, noon ‘til late.”

The Bechelli family pride themselves in the fact that everything is fried to order so everything is freshly cooked. They also now offer gluten-free batter every Monday (except bank holidays) which is proving very popular with most people but especially coeliac sufferers. Find out more at
