President Roger Ireland welcomes new member Tim Williams A


t the lunchtime meeting on Thursday February 5th, following an introduction by PP Brian Kettle, President Roger Ireland welcomed and initiated Tim Williams as a new member of our club.


Tim is no stranger to Rotary as his late father Jack was a founder member of the Rotary Club of South Molton; later as “District Treasurer” and as a keen and active Rotarian he had been awarded a Paul Harris fellowship. Tim grew up in South Molton and was educated at Shebbear College. He joined his father’s well known and respected firm J.P. Williams TV & Radio business in the town and learnt all as- pects of electrical retailing. Then in 1985 Tim started the highly successful “Sony Centre” with shops dedicated to selling only the wide range of Sony products and along with his two sons Peter and Richard he opened branches in Exeter, Torquay and Barnstaple. It was a thriving business and twice won “The Sony Centre of the Year Award” with 144 Sony Centres partici- pating throughout the UK and also won the “Total Industry Award – 2004 Merchandiser of the Year”.

Pat Malek sent this picture of P.P Robin Elliot and Cherrie. They met up with them when their cruise ship docked in Tenerife.


They [Robin & Cherrie] have an apartment there and drove Pat & Herbert up to Mount Teide.

Finally, after almost 20 years trading, Tim decided to close down the business in 2005
