Freda the club’s mascot bear is about to depart on a year-long trek to far off places.... It is hoped!!!!

Yes, it is hoped that as many Rotarians as possible will take Freda on their holidays, take a photo on location for the bulletin and also, of course, to prove she was actually there (take a selfie!).

At the end of the year there will be a fun competition to guess how many miles Freda has travelled.

Freda’s History: - she came to Barnstaple from Preston, in Paignton, where her namesake, Freda Enoch was Founder President of the Preston Inner Wheel Club. Freda Enoch’s husband, John, was a Past President of Preston Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow, their daughter Bridget (now Bridget Kettle) and wife of our past president Brian.

Freda has already had a very event- ful life as our mascot; she was kid- napped for over 2 weeks, then when no ransom note was found it was decided she was actually only missing but then mysteriously found. She also was very bravely launched by parachute off the bell tower of Marwood Church, not as a means of getting rid of her but as a charity fund raising event.

Although this is not an official report of the evening, it was said to be a very interesting and informative talk that covered not only the actual rescue but also many aspects of the RNLI includ ing their superb training base in Dorset.
