Jewellery & Fashion Accessories

High powered and sophisticated catwalk shows have become a regular feature at gift trade shows as a great way of demonstrating new trends and introducing fresh product. Handbags, hats, jewellery, clothes and

accessories are shown to their best advantage and the large crowds that pack each event confirm their popularity. Julie Driscoll is the portfolio director of

Jewellery & Watch Birmingham which runs alongside Spring Fair and she is in no doubt about the importance the event’s catwalk shows. This year also saw the addition of a Fashion Accessories Catwalk Show at London’s Top

and there was no shortage of ideas at Jewellery & Watch Birmingham. Among them was the Houlden Bridal

Design of the Year competition which saw the prize for the £1,500 to £3,000 retail price category go to Siobhan Maher of Domino for her Rosebud design. The prize for the £3,000 to £5,000

category went to Rachel Galley of Rachel Galley Jewellery for her Snowdrop

Drawer which, organisers said, added to the vibrant atmosphere. The January show also included Home and CRAFT and a change of venue to Olympia. Brand director, Ian Rudge said: “The move

to Olympia has been tremendously well received and buyers were highly complimentary about the new format. With additional features such as the Fashion Catwalk, a whole floor dedicated to Top Drawer and a popular new space for CRAFT which had doubled in size, this was without question the most successful event we have run to date.” Those looking for winning ideas should also make the most of catwalk award ceremonies

Trilogy set – a striking engagement and wedding ring set. Another young designer to watch

is Sophie Lomax, a recent graduate from the Birmingham School of Jewellery who was awarded the £5,000 bursary for 2015, launched in conjunction with the show and in association with Birmingham City University. Sophie will document her

experiences via a dedicated blog page on the Jewellery & Watch Birmingham website, providing a portal for other students and graduates to gain tips for success. There was also recognition for

the best in jewellery and watch buying talent – the Buyers Power List. The awards went to: Best Independent Retailer – Wongs; Best Multiple Retailer – Goldsmiths; Best Department Store – Fortnum & Mason; Best Individual Buyer – Ashley Pugh; Best Watch Retailer – Watchfinders; Best Heritage Site, Museum or Gallery – National Gallery.
