FIBO celebrates 30th anniversary

International fitness industry will gather in April in Cologne

A 30th birthday is a milestone – a time for celebration and looking to the future as well as a look back at what’s been achieved so far.

This year, FIBO will celebrate its 30th anniversary this year with the beginning a new phase that sees the event move from Essen to Cologne, with 700 exhibitors and more than 100,000 attendees expected at the 2015 event.

30 years of FIBO

When the first FIBO event debuted in Cologne, 1985, no one could have anticipated quite how successful it would be.

With the first event attracting 10,000 visitors, it’s testament to FIBO’s continuing quality that, of the 69 exhibitors present in 1985, the majority are still present today, including gym80 and the Quick Training Equipment GmbH.

Since then, much has changed – but not all. The name FIBO, composed of the fitness and bodybuilding terms remains, with a sub-title added of ‘International Trade Show for Fitness, Wellness and Health’, to meet the increased interest of the industry in these areas.

The visitor profile shows the convergence of ‘old’ and ‘new’ in the event. The fitness enthusiast visitors comprising the ‘first generation’ of FIBO remained. In 1985, exercising was more of a niche occupation, while today, FIBO visitors come from a diverse range of organisations including from gyms, health, physiotherapy and rehabilitation centres, spa and wellness facilities, recreation centres and sports clubs. Over the years, FIBO has attracted many new industries and, as a result, found that their attendance has even increased tenfold.

The 30th birthday will be celebrated in April at the show with a special anniversary party on the Saturday evening.

What to expect at FIBO 2015 During the four days of the 2015 exhibition, visitors can expect a more clearly structured FIBO, with a series of exhibition areas divided into three areas: FIBO Expert, FIBO Power and Passion.

FIBO Expert will provide information about exhibitors offering innovations in the fields of training equipment, medical equipment, corporate fitness, health and beauty, sports nutrition, interiors, services, group fitness, functional training and retailing. The Wellness and Beauty in Hall 8 has been further developed for

2015 to include a comprehensive programme of lectures, guided tours and VIP track.

Another highlight for 2015 is the addition of a Corporate Fitness area, also in Hall 8. Exhibitors will include companies specialising in digital health coaching as well as ergonomics, nutrition and training concepts, team development and fitness and health insurance organisations.

FIBO Innovation Award In cooperation with TÜV Rheinland, the FIBO Innovation Awards return and will span four categories: Training Equipment for Fitness, Rehabilitation and Prevention; Health Promotion; Decorating and Design and Training Concepts. The products submitted for consideration must represent an innovative development for the entire industry and must have launched no more than a year ago from the starting date of FIBO 2015.
