PRIVATE IVF: YOUR QUESTIONS

ANSWERED Dr Debbie Falconer, Lead Embryologist, Manchester Fertility

Q: A:

I can’t get NHS IVF where I live, but I’m worried about the cost of

private treatment. Can a private clinic help me?

We know that many people who are facing private IVF are concerned about

the financial risk of treatment, especially when there is no guarantee of success. As one of the UK’s leading and trusted

infertility clinics, we’re dedicated to making private treatment as accessible as we can, so people aren’t prevented from getting the help they need. We offer a number of discounted treatment schemes suitable for a wide range of patients.

Q: A:

What funding packages can I get with Manchester Fertility?

We offer, through Access Fertility, either an IVF Refund programme – the UK’s first

IVF money-back guarantee - or a Multi-Cycle package.

What are the benefits of an Access Fertility package?

The Access Fertility funding programmes we offer are designed to

give you the maximum chance of success, and the reassurance that you have more than one try at private treatment if you need it, all at heavily discounted rates.

What do the packages offer?

Both IVF Refund and Multi-Cycle packages include multiple cycles of

IVF/ICSI at substantially discounted rates

compared to paying for individual cycles, plus additional benefits and innovations such as EmbryoScope time-lapse monitoring, EmbryoGlue, Blastocyst transfer and one year’s freezing and storage of embryos. Multi-Cycle includes up to two cycles of

IVF/ICSI, whilst IVF Refund includes up to three cycles. If you choose IVF Refund, if you complete all your included treatment cycles and have transferred all frozen embryos but not had a live birth, you receive a 70% refund of the fees you’ve paid to Access Fertility for your package.

Q: A:

Are there any acceptance criteria?

Only for IVF Refund. IVF Refund is available if you’re aged 37 and under and is subject to a medical review, which is carried out independently by Access Fertility following receipt of a medical report from your Manchester Fertility consultant, which outlines why you’re having problems conceiving and your diagnosis. Multi-Cycle doesn’t involve a medical review, and is open to any patient aged under 42. For either package, you must be using your own eggs in treatment.

Q: A:

Why doesn’t Manchester Fertility offer its own packages instead of

using Access Fertility?

By partnering with Access Fertility, the outcome of your treatment is

not linked to the financial or commercial performance of our clinic. The only money we receive from Access Fertility is for your IVF treatment itself. This means we can offer you

programmes with complete transparency, ensuring that we continue to do what’s best for you, and your packages are not offered for our own financial gain.

Q: A:

If I choose an Access Fertility package, who decides my

treatment?

We are still completely and wholly responsible for recommending what

treatment is best for you, and your care during your time with us – Access Fertility has no influence over this. Your treatment remains the same whether you choose an Access Fertility package or not, the programmes are simply another way for you to fund your treatment. We will fully explain what the programmes involve and how the costs work, you can then decide if it’s something you wish to consider.

Q: A:

What if I don’t wish to fund treatment with a package?

If you’re prepared to be an egg donor, then egg-sharing is an option for cheaper

IVF. If you’re aged 35 and under in good health, then you may be eligible to egg-share, which gives you a cycle of private IVF or ICSI if it’s needed for £1,000. It involves donating half of the eggs we retrieve during your cycle to our donor programme, ensuring we can help patients who need a donor egg to have a baby. We have excellent success rates for our egg-

sharers, currently over half of women who egg- share with us achieve pregnancy. Becoming an egg donor is a big decision however, so you’ll receive support and counselling from our team to ensure it’s the right option for you. 
