stop now. At the top, we were joined by Iwona, who overnight had arranged a driver (Nebu) so we would not have to drive back after the ride. She also brought snacks in different shapes and form. One thing we had underestimated was food. You need a lot! We were using gels and bars at around 3 per climb. Bottles were topped up with isotonic and bottom of the descent bananas and flapjacks would suffice……to a point. The constant guey chewy texture eventually had us all feeling a little nauseous and we needed a change of beat with respect to food types. Iwona had come up trumps with some good wholesome junk! With temperatures on the Valley floor boosting over 40 degrees we decided to take a break and gather our thoughts. Colin was as good as out, and back pain was beginning to take a grip. Of course they were the aches and pains of the ride but these are almost enjoyable! The next climb (climb 7) was paced by Philipp, to give us the will to go on and keep us moving.
