By beholding, we become changed.
Our Lord knows full well that we have to work and clean and prepare food and wash clothes and all the rest of the duties of life.
So He set apart a day that would be totally devoted to becoming more like Him.
And to make sure we would not be interrupted or tempted to lose our focus for that blessed day, He told us not to let anyone else in our homes work on
that day either… Exodus 20:10 “But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates:”
That is why we ask you both not to do any work at our house, on the holy
God directly commands us to both not work ourselves, nor let anyone else work on that day either.
This is not a prohibition to us… it is a blessing.
We know why He wants us to refrain from work and we appreciate it!
He goes so far as to state that we should not be doing our cooking on that day as well.
Exodus 16:23 “And he said unto them, This is that which the LORD hath said, To morrow is the rest of the holy sabbath unto the LORD: bake that which ye will bake to day, and seethe that ye will seethe; and that which remaineth over lay up for you to be kept until the morning.”
The Sabbath is not to be taken up in cooking and washing dishes and
baking casseroles and various other meal preparations. 9
