Mountain. Crags. Forest. Orienteering

This is a great introduction to using maps and learning navigation techniques and is an extremely versatile activity, adaptable to your groups aims. Whether your group would benefit from a competition, a team challenge, a chance to focus on learning and developing new skills or simply a fun run around our 11 acre woodland with a specific purpose, orienteering can do all of this! It is one of the few activities where young people are allowed to venture out in their own small groups allowing for development in confidence and independence.

As a provider of the National Navigation Award Scheme we can

run a half day orienteering session as part of one of the NNAS awards. Add to this a local walk or mountain walk with some map skills to develop what the students have learnt orienteering, and the students will be able to go home with a nationally recognised award in navigation.

Local Walk

CMC is set in a beautiful area of hills, woodlands, rivers and beaches. It only takes half a day to go and explore the rich natural environment right on our doorstep. The walk can be your choice and tailored to the physical and educational needs of your group. We can run it as part of the National Navigation Award Scheme and spend time practising map and compass skills along the way. We can visit geographical and historical features that tie in with your curriculum or it could simply be a relaxed time outdoors, enjoying stunning surroundings, in good company.

Mountain Walking

Explore the peaks of Snowdonia. This activity is attainable for the majority of groups as we can choose a route suited to your groups’ needs. The day can range from an adventurous scramble to a gentle walk. An educational aspect can be included by visiting old slate mines or glaciated valleys or practising navigation skills. We can take wheelchair users on simple routes into the heart of the mountains where the views are just as breathtaking as on the summits (obviously sometimes obscured by the weather!). Whatever day you choose, the time spent together out on the hill can be an invaluable opportunity to come together as a team.

Overnight Expeditions

Venture into the Snowdonia National Park carrying all that you need to spend a night or two camping out. The chance to spend time completely away from everyday life is an amazing experience. This encourages participants to become more self-sufficient, independent and appreciative of the things that are often taken for granted. It also promotes inter-dependence and cohesion within groups.

We can run overnight expeditions with navigation training for schools and colleges in conjunction with syllabus requirements and we are also a provider of the Duke of Edinburgh award scheme and can run practice and qualifying expeditions for all levels of the award.
