TOWN CRIER BOB Larger-than-life FPRA Chairman Bob Smytherman has taken on a new role ideally suited to his out-going personality – that of town crier.

Having just completed a very successful year as Mayor of Worthing, Bob is now the local town crier – the first person to do the job after a lapse of 20 years. Bob was known as #coolmayor as his use of social media catapulted the mayoral role into the 21st Century and to a new younger demographic. Bob was a very popular mayor who carried out a record number of civic duties and became the People’s Mayor with his friendly and approachable manner. In 2014 Bob was asked to take part in the Community Play and was given the role of town crier; a role he then offered to continue for the town. Read more on

AGM reminder

This year’s FPRA Annual Conference and AGM will take place on November 10, 2014 at Kensington Town Hall, London. Guest speakers will cover the hot topics in leasehold. There will also be interactive workshops, led by experts, focusing on: • Service charge and right to manage • Enfranchisement and lease extensions • First Tier Tribunal • Insurance • Residents’ associations One-to-one appointments will also be available with advisers from both The FPRA and The Leasehold Advisory Service throughout the evening. These are strictly by appointment only. We will take bookings for these appointments nearer to the event date. YOU MUST BE REGISTERED TO ATTEND THE CONFERENCE IN ORDER TO BOOK A ONE-TO-ONE APPOINTMENT. Once registered we will inform you when we open for one-to-one bookings. Tickets are free of charge for FPRA members. Please contact or call 0203 538 8875 to register if you are a member. YOU MUST REGISTER TO ATTEND THIS EVENT. For non-members, there is a £5 admin charge to attend. FPRA’s Information Pack: a guide to formation, recognition and running your association – will be on sale for a special AGM price of £15.00 cash only on the day – instead of £18.00.


FPRA is in consultation with the DEFRA (Department for Food, Environment and Rural Affairs) over the Government’s refusal to include leasehold buildings insurance in the Floor Re scheme. If your block has had experience with flooding, please share these with us to add strength to our case.
