FPRA take on “Task and Finish”
Federation Chairman Bob Smytherman has been invited to take part in a Government-led initiative on a proposal for the regulation of managing agents in the private sector.
This “Task and Finish” group, set up by the Department of Communities and Local Government, involves interested stakeholders – such as the FPRA – in discussions on the proposals contained in the Rugg Review.
Key proposals of the Rugg Review were for a national register of private landlords and the regulation of letting and management agents by an independent body.

Meet the members of the executive committee of the FPRA at the annual general meeting (AGM) on Tuesday, September 22.
Enclosed with this newsletter are details of the AGM, which will take place at the Gulbenkian Room, Park Crescent Conference Centre, International Student House, 229 Great Portland Street, London W1. This is the same location as last year.
The meeting starts at 6.30pm but the doors are open at 6pm for refreshments and to give members the opportunity to meet the committee members informally. After the formal business of the meeting there will be a question-and-answer session with the committee members. If you would like a considered answer to a question, please submit it to the admin offi ce in advance. Or just turn up on the night and get an “off-the-cuff” response to any question you wish to raise.
Also enclosed with this newsletter are the FPRA’s audited accounts, Notice of AGM and minutes of the last AGM.

Residential Managing Agents (ARMA), The Association of Retirement Housing Managers (ARHM), the Leasehold Advisory Service (LEASE), The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), as well as civil servants, industry professionals and others.
This group will help inform the Government’s formal response later this year.
The FPRA broadly supports the regulation of managing agents but has some concern about how this would work in practice, especially for those members who self-manage. “We are keen to seen no extra burden of bureaucracy on volunteer directors of resident management committees,” Bob Smytherman said.
