New beginnings W

September is a busy month in the interior design calendar with many major events being held in both Paris and London. Renowned as one of the key exhibitions in the UK for all interior design professionals, Decorex International is an absolute must see. Fiona Applegarthtells us more.

orld-renowned designer, Nina Campbell aptly describes Decorex International as being: “…like the beginning of a new term in

the world of interiors. A great party atmosphere and an air of optimism about what is to be unveiled at the start of the new season.” This year, the exhibition took place in the grounds

of London’s historic Syon House and continuing to build on its history of almost forty years, it was a resounding success. With more than 350 exhibitors, showcasing high-end

traditional and opulent brands, it was incredibly uplifting to view the latest in inspirational design with an acclaimed mix of new talent and established masters. From exceptional British suppliers there were some

of the finest collections of furniture, fabrics, lighting, accessories, tableware, carpets, flooring, bathrooms and wallcoverings. Award winning British furniture design company, Tom

Faulkner presented some stunning furniture pieces. Centre stage on its Decorex stand this year was the

stunning Vienna chair. Inspired by the elegant curves of the art nouveau movement and the simplicity of mid- twentieth century modernism, it is beautifully proportioned and wonderfully comfortable. The legs are water cut from steel plate, providing a strength that belies the chair’s delicate design. The company, founded by Tom himself in Wiltshire back in 1995, has the same product quality and customer service values with which he started still in place today, and specialises in beautiful handmade metal furniture and distinctive glass topped dining tables. A small team, working to the highest standards of

production, attention to detail is paramount. Tom believes that simplicity of line and proportion are the cornerstones of all good design and he applies this principle to everything he makes. Tom’s wonderful Versailles Console Table is also a

breathtaking piece. Made from flowing, organic loops of steel, it is available in two standard sizes, but can be tailor made as well, and comes with a glass or marble top in any of TF’s numerous finishes.
