There’s A (Not Very) New Doc On The Block!

Some of you will know that Dr Al-Doori has decided to reduce his work commitment at Blake House Surgery. As a consequence, I have taken over the management and ownership of the Surgery. Before I give you some information about the Surgery, and myself I would like to take this opportunity to thank Dr Al-Doori for all the hard work that he has put in over the years to make the Surgery the success it is today.

I have been working at Blake House Surgery for the last five years, so I know many of you already. Over the next few years, I hope to get to know many more of you, and you to know me.

My aim is to deliver a family based holistic approach to modern day medicine, based solely at Blake House Surgery. I believe in the personal touch and hence you may find that you get personal calls from me, inviting you into the Surgery for special clinics or health screening opportunities. I undoubtedly will become part of your family and you will become my own extended family.

In terms of the work of the Surgery, I shall be available every day except Tuesday morning when I work at Shebbear College and Thursday morning when I work at Hatherleigh Care Village. Dr Al-Doori will work all day on Tuesday and Thursday. The Surgery will continue to close on a Friday afternoon, to give me and my hard working staff a break.

Since I have taken charge, the Surgery has begun to open between 1.00 p.m. and 2.00 p.m., which means that calls at lunchtime are not diverted to Devon Doctors, providing better continuity of care and convenience for patients.

And now on a lighter side, each morning when I arrive for work, if you are waiting in the waiting room, you will see that I am accompanied by my trusty dog, Pip. If you wish, and by special appointment, he is available for consultations or pat therapy.

So in summary, I hope that you all remain well, and never have to see me, but when you do, I hope that you are satisfied by the work of all the members of the Surgery.

Dr Alan J. Howlett
