with Xandra Eden __
Since 1965, the Weatherspoon’s Art on Paper exhibition has charted a history of contemporary art through outstanding works on paper. Various curators throughout the years have approached the Art on Paper exhibitions in different ways. This year, Curator of Exhibitions Xandra Eden chose include more works by fewer artists than in the past so that audiences would have the opportunity to get a more in-depth understanding of each artist’s work. Thirty- four emerging and established artists were selected through a submissions process and by invitation to present unique works using paper as their primary medium.
Thanks to the ongoing commitment of the Dillard Paper Company/ xpedx and The Dillard Fund, the Weatherspoon has been able to acquire works from each Art on Paper exhibition for the Dillard Collection, which today numbers nearly 600 objects. Acquisitions have included work by seminal artists such as Eva Hesse, Frank Stella, and Louise Bourgeois.
Support for the exhibition and catalogue is generously provided by the F.M. Kirby Foundation, Inc. Special thanks to the Preview Party Committee, the Weatherspoon Art Museum Association, UNCG Graduate Assistant, Stacy Bloom Rexrode and Curatorial Intern, Lee Summerell.
