Carl Van Brunt focuses on the imagistic potential of fractals and the use of digital projection to display sequences of images on wall mounted or free-standing sculpture. His work, “North Star”, can be thought of as a chamber work in 12 movements, expressing a range of emotions appropriate to the Winter Solstice. Historically, the North Star has been an aid to navigators making their way across seas and deserts. For Van Brunt, the North Star is a metaphor for light. The roots of his process are found in painting, in the jazz improvisation of masters such as Miles Davis, John Coltrane and Thelonius Monk and in the dualistic, scale independent geometry of Buckminster Fuller.

Bio Carl Van Brunt has been a digital artist for nearly 35 years. Before that he was a paint- er. He has also worked in the commercial art world and as a gallery owner and direc- tor. Van Brunt considers his digital work to be a continuation of painterly tradition. He is currently Gallery Director at the Wood- stock Artists Association and Museum in Woodstock, NY.
