CHRIS KACZMAREK www.chriskaczmarek.com

With training in metalwork, ceramics as well as sound, video, and circuit building, Chris Kaczmarek’s work questions the role of technology in our everyday lives. “Stairs” is a site specific installation, envisioned after STEAM, that animates the marble stairs connecting the upstairs gallery to the main floor. The work transforms a periphery space that normally wouldn’t garner much attention. Suddenly the stairs are not merely a way to the second floor, they become an interactive instrument. Activated by walking up or down, the stairs react in tune with the climber in a cacophony of sound and visuals.

Bio Christopher Kaczmarek is an artist whose work spans both traditional and experimental sculptural practices through a broad variety of mediums. His sculptural installations are often interactive and designed to guide the viewer towards a deeper con- templation about the environment that the viewer inhabits. Other works include sound scores for the stage, multi-channel videos and hand-made electronic instruments. He has received an M.F.A. in Sculpture and an M.A. in Modern and Contemporary Art History from Purchase College, where he is currently the Assistant Director of the School of Art+Design. He works in his studio in Port Chester, NY.
