GENERAL SESSION – The Future of Texas Water: Water Plan Funding & Implementa on, Grand Oaks Ballroom (J,K,L)

Presented by: The Honorable Troy Fraser, Texas State Senator (invited), Carlos Rubinstein, Chairman, Texas Water Develop- ment Board, M. Sco Norman, Jr., Execu ve Director, Texas Associa on of Builders

The State of Texas does not currently have enough exis ng water supplies to meet the demand for water during  mes of drought. Scarcity and compe  on for water, environ- mental concerns, and the cost of new water supplies have made sound water planning and management increasingly important. With Texas’ popula on expected to grow by 82 percent in the next 50 years, the availability of water supplies during  mes of drought is essen al. In November 2013, Texas voters approved Proposi on 6, legisla on that enables the state to create two funds that will help fi nance projects in the State Water Plan. Before the funds are made available, the Texas Water Develop- ment Board (TWDB) must develop a system to priori ze proj- ects and develop rules on how the funds will operate. Ensuring Texas’ future water supply is vital to the residen al construc on and development industry and the state’s con nued economic growth. This session is your opportunity to hear from leaders in the State Water Plan funding implementa on process. They will discuss the status, direc on and future of the Plan that aff ects every Texas ci zen.
