No Surprise that Antonakos Purchases Lee Builders, Inc.

ee Builders, Inc. has become known in the Lincolnton & McCormick areas for their custom home construction division. The company was started in 1995 by Mr. Tommy Lee and Mr. Dean Antonakos. Recently, the territory has stretched into Columbia and Richmond counties and as far as Clinton, South Carolina.

Tommy started the construction company when he met and married Lou David of Lincolnton. Anyone you ask will tell you that

Tommy has a knack for being an optimistic, visionary business man. Tommy saw the potential in the Savannah Lakes area and hasn’t slowed down since. He is the first to admit that he has been a part of many businesses, some that thrived and some not so much. Many of these include Pinnacle Outdoor Advertising which was sold to Lamar Advertising and a brief stint of publishing a business magazine. Not to mention the purchase of Savannah Lakes Lodge which was eventually purchased by the current owners. Tommy still manages the Savannah Lakes Marina and has a partner that handles Soap Creek Marina.

Clay Antonakos, Dean’s son, began working during the summers with Lee Builders while he was a student at Georgia Southern University. Following his graduation from Georgia Southern in the fall of 1997, he joined the company as a full time employee. Clay recalls Tommy Lee pulling a covered trailer bearing the paintings of ostriches on the sides (Lee & Dean Antonakos owned an ostrich farm for a short while) to Statesboro, Georgia and loading all of his belongs and dropping them at a rental house in Lincolnton. Clay spent several years training in the field with the company.

After approximately 3 years, he began to take more of a management role with the company which included making decisions on the future growth of the company. At that time, Clay was sure that Construction was the right industry for him but felt he needed more confirmation that he would stay in the area. In just a short time that confirmation came in the form of a young lady that stole his heart and he knew that Lincolnton would be his “forever” home. Clay married Beth Dawkins, a life-long resident of the community and they have made Lincolnton their home for the past 14

years. They have 3 children, Jack Ross (9), Sims Hollin (5), and Lollie Elizabeth (3). Beth often laughs because any trip Clay makes into the big city of Augusta is always followed by the remarks about how good it is to live in Lincolnton.

Clay worked diligently, knowing that the he would one day have the opportunity to purchase the company and on April 4th of this year, the papers were signed, making that happen. On Clay’s purchase, Tommy says that “it was no surprise to him”. He saw that Clay treated the business as his own before it was and he has no doubt that he will continue making decisions that solidify his hope that Lee Builders, Inc. is around for many generations to come.

Clay’s hobbies include anything that he can do with his family. At this time in his life, golfing, like many other hobbies, are taking a backseat until the time that his children show an interest and they can participate with him. He is a Chairman of the Trustees at his church, Lincolnton United Methodist and Chairman of the City of Lincolnton’s Planning & Zoning board. His interest is in growing a company that will be an asset to the area. Clay is quoted several times stating that he hopes he can grow the company so that his children will have the opportunity to continue his work, if it their wish.

Lee Builders is currently working on custom home projects in Savannah Lakes and Modoc Shores in South Carolina, and in several areas in Lincoln County. With the commencement of “The Brooks” development, a 46 unit townhome subdivision in Columbia County, Clay has started another project by the name of Lakeview Commons near Fort Gordon. It is projected that 75 townhomes will be constructed over the next 2-3 years.

Lee Builders has an office in Lincolnton and one in McCormick. The success of the company would not be possible without the dedicated employees and their hard work & dedication. Floyd Marlow, foreman, has been with the company 13 years. Carrie Phillips, in sales & marketing has been with them 9 years. Beth Antonakos, has been serving as office manager for 7 years. More recently, Suzann Collier and Tyler Cole have become a part of the team. The company employs several subcontractors.
