festivals taking place throughout the month and many, many local events. So, with all these events planned what will the weather offer us? At the time of writing (early June) July looks to be quite an uneventful month. of Julius Caesar who was born on the 12th, now shortened to July, this can be the hottest month of the year and seems also to be the one when most events, large and small, international and local, are arranged. The Wimbledon tennis Championships will climax on the 5th and 6th whilst the Henley Royal Regatta takes place between the 2nd and 6th. And the British Grand Prix at Towcester is on the 4th, 5th and 6th. Probably the biggest interna- tional sporting event this year is the Football World Cup in Brazil with the final taking place on 13th when the trophy will be lifted by the victorious team whose name will probably start with “B” !? Com- mencing on the 5th will be the Tour de France which this year visits Leeds, Harrogate, York, Shef- field, Cambridge and The Mall in London on its 3656km journey finishing, of course, in Paris on the 27th. Between the 17th and 20th The Royal Liver- pool will host the Open Golf Championship for the 12th time and on the 19th and 20th The Farnbor- ough Air Show takes place followed on the 23rd by the start of The Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. Of particular interest to gardeners will be The Hampton Court Flower Show from the 8th to the 13th and the Tatton Park Flower Show (at Knuts- ford) from the 24th to the 27th. Those who prefer to sit back in a panama with a glass of Pimms will note that Glorious Goodwood comes under starters orders on the 29th. There are also numerous music
