Unique online shop help for members

MOVING with the times sees Cardgains celebrate their 25th anniversary by opening up a unique online shop to help retailer members. Revealed to their 1,000-plus retailers on May 9, the shop went live three days later allowing online ordering from publishers such as The Art Group, Avanti Press, Blue Mountain Arts, CardMix, Danilo, Davora, Emotional Rescue, Gemma, Grass Roots, Lucilla Lavender, Misumaru, Paper Rose, Peartree Heybridge, Portico, Splimple and Words ’n’ Wishes. And the beauty of the bespoke system is that the webshop gives direct access to suppliers’ products held in the buying group’s own warehouse facility in conjunction with new parter Supplier Web Shop, which can then be delivered in one mixed delivery that’s Cardgains boxed and branded.

“The time is now right to meet the online trading movement,” said Cardgains joint MD Chris Dyson, “in a way which will continue to offer opportunity for our members and suppliers alike.

“Over our 25 years, we’ve continued to adapt our marketing presence to reach more members and provide more opportunity for suppliers to do more business. “From the early days of our fi rst monochrome newsletters, we’ve looked to embrace technology, balanced with the needs and pace of our membership. “When Facebook launched in 2008, the number

of Cardgains’ members with an email for business purposes was less than 10 per cent – now it’s over 75 per cent of the active membership, so that’s nearly 500 of them and many are actively purchasing for business. “A particularly good feature is that if we don’t have the item in stock, it won’t be on the website so retailers will have 100 per cent fulfi lment of their order.” The new service will allow members to top up

orders between visits by reps or agents and shop across different publishers and suppliers so they can test different ranges and companies they haven’t tried before, and there will also be online suppler promotions and purchasing incentives. The webshop follows on from the relaunch of the

Cardgains website over Easter, and has been in the planning stages for the past two years. A letter was sent all retailer members explaining the new webshop with information on how to register and then order through the site as well as explaining that retailers can still shop through suppliers’ own websites through the Supplier Portfolio tab.

The second phase of the webshop is expected in June or July when gifts, balloons and party products, gift bags and wrap are due to be added to the items available for order. If Cardgains members need help, they should email in the fi rst instance. T: 0845 166 2054

A NEW award for rising stars has been announced by LIMA UK, that’s designed to recognise and champion excellence among upcoming junior licensing industry professionals.

The winner will receive one year’s mentorship from LIMA UK MD Kelvyn Gardner after being presented with the Rising Stars Award at a ceremony at their annual Young Professionals Network party, which will this year be hosted at Mind Candy’s East London offi ces on July 24. MULTI-award-winning TV hit Breaking Bad is seeing continued licensing growth with Pyramid International one of the front runners with their poster enjoying strong sales.

The story of terminally-ill teacher Walter White, who makes illegal drugs to support his family, has 12 licensees to date, with more deals at the fi nal signing stage, according to representatives Rocket Licensing. The fi ve series are now available as a boxed set and video on demand so it continues to hook new fans, and Pyramid have new leather embossed notebooks set for release in the fi nal quarter of the year, with new product in publishing and gifting to follow soon. THE burgeoning licensing programme for CBBC hit Wolfblood is continuing to grow, with Bulldog Licensing recently inking new deals with Danilo Promotions and Fashion UK for greetings cards/calendars and nightwear/underwear respectively. Created by Debbie Moon and co-produced by CBBC and ZDF/ZDFE, Wolfblood is the award-winning fantasy/drama series that centres on two seemingly normal teenagers, Rhydian and Maddy, who live a secret life as Wolfbloods – humans that can turn into wolves. Both series of Wolfblood have been a huge success for the CBBC channel with fi rst runs reaching nearly 1.1million kids aged six-12, and the BBC confi rmed fi lming for series three would begin this year for broadcast in the autumn, causing huge excitement amongst the show’s enormous Wolfpackers fanbase. Bulldog are also looking to extend the brand into publishing, board games, card games and stationery lines

with advanced negotiations underway in these areas. The response from retailers has been extremely

promising with buyers at major stores throughout the UK identifying Wolfblood as having huge potential and keen to see more from licensees.
