PULSEREVIEW The beat of

he beat of buying

Colin Gilchrist

The Articulate Gallery “It’s been ok, I don’t let many people walk past without stopping them and I’ve got a big fi le full of leads of which I should convert at least 75 per cent. I really enjoy the show, I’ve done Top Drawer and Spring and Autumn Fairs, but this is a pleasure.”

Pauline Swindells Cockadoodle “I got a couple of orders on Sunday, and Monday was even better. My square cards are the newest ones and have gone down really well because of the size. The baby ones are selling really well.”

Shop Talk

Retailers and visitors pay rapt attention to the How To Grow Your Business With Pop-Up lecture from Abigail Freeman, director of brands for We Are Pop-Up.

Corinna Rothwell

Coorinna Rothwell Designs “It’s my third year here, Sunday was better for me, I got some returning customers. Shows are a tricky beast, it’s often about what happens afterwards with people who saw you here, rather than what happens here.”

A good show seems to have been had by most at Clarion Events’ Pulse held at Earls Court, London, over May 11-13, as the capital’s only summer design-led gift and greetings fair attracted buyers from both the uk and abroad, many of whom also beat their way across town to visit PG Live.

Daphne Diamant Purpose & Worth Etc “Sunday we saw smaller retailers, I took some orders and have good feelings about some of the follow-up orders – and I’ve had some bigger people come by too.”

Ian Collins Colcards “We’re doing PG Live as well so it’s been a bit chaotic, my brother David is manning the stand over there. It was quite quiet here on Sunday but today, Monday, has been really good, we were quite busy.”

Colette Cofi e-Cudjoe, Something For The Girls “We’ve had lots of new shops come up, and it’s been steady with independent stores. It’s not about orders though – you don’t do a show for the orders, it’s the exposure.”

Mike Welch, Ros Stiers “Since Ros has started drawing dogs everyone is always asking if we do this dog or that dog – last year it was typography and this year the animals have taken over. Our notebooks are brand new for this show and the giftwrap. We had a good day on Sunday and loads of orders so can’t complain.”

Jo Clark

Jo Clark Design “It’s been a good show, a lot better than last year, I was in a different spot then and this is a much better area for me. It’s worked well.”
