Foster Care and the Dangers of Online Technology For foster parents, using text messaging as a way of

communication for a foster child does have its benefits. If used correctly, and with much supervision, foster parents, and child welfare agents, can monitor communication between the foster child and birth parent in regards to what was said via a text message. Those who work with children in foster care can better contact the child through quick, discreet messages, messages that a foster child can respond to without indicating to others that he has been contacted by a foster parent or case manager. Indeed, another benefit of texting is that it is discreet.

Sexting is the act of sending a sexually suggesting

message, pictures, and even videos from one electronic device to another, usually from one mobile phone to another. The term comes from combining the words “sex” and “texting.” With a click of a button, a sexual message is sent to a friend. With another click, a nude image of someone is sent to another person.
