Positive beginnings for 2014 with Faringdon Rotary Club

The start of any new year is relatively quiet for Faringdon Rotary club, howeverwe have just held our most successful Duck race yet at Millets and I would like to thank Rodney, his fund raising team and all our Rotarians and friends that helped sell tickets and on the actual day. What a success!

Thank you to all Rotarians that helped at Lockinge on car park duty, if you haven’t helped at Lockinge put the date in your diary for next year as providing the weather is fine, it’s a great day out.

Our Presidents night is 31st May at Sudbury house. Please invite friends as the evening promises to be an enjoyable time, black tie and posh frocks, you can choose either! We will be having a starter, buffet main, and dessert served. We are fortunate to have Sue and Byron Harvey with their dogs from ‘Dogs For The Disabled’ join us, and we will have an opportunity to see both dogs in action.

The Young Carers is gaining momentum and increasing in numbers. Faringdon Rotary will continue to support this important initiative as long as the Young Carers want it to continue. Thanks to Lynda’s hard work and tenacity we are starting to see positive results. Some of the comments from the young carers show beyond doubt that this is of great benefit to them, and our thanks go out to the Town Council and various Charities that have assisted us and enabled a dream to become a reality.

The possible Rotaract Club is still in a fledgling state but are meeting on a regular basis and hopefully with Lynda’s and Roddy’s guidance and encouragement will actually come to fruition.

Coming up is the Buscot Fun run, now to me that’s an oxymoron, using the word Fun and Run in the same sentence is quite honestly ridiculous. However I feel honour bound as president to enter. The last time I ‘jogged’ it was called cross country and I was half the weight I am now, at school and

in short trousers. The only comfort I can take from the whole event is I will be able to say that ‘I did it in my personal best time’. This actually will not be difficult as it will also be my first and last effort, I will be happy if I finish before night fall. I started my training gently by watching 30 minutes of the London marathon, then after two weeks got a free app on my mobile phone.

I have purchased my Mikey trainers, black Mikey running shorts and matching black Mikey extra comfort running socks, at least I will look the part. If anyone would like to purchase a once used, never raced or rallied set
