I am writing this article on the day after the carefully planned succession of the manager’s position at Manchester United has collapsed around their feet. Let’s hope that the same does not happen at the end of June in District 1090!

It is now full steam ahead preparing for my year as District Governor and the focus has definitely changed in the last few weeks, with the workload increasing and most District activities being centred on 2014/15, rather than 21013/14. Various training and preparation events have either taken place with clubs and incoming Presidents, or will be doing so during the next month. I think that the timing of our District Conference in March often acts as a pivotal point in this process. Other Districts have their conference in the autumn and it doesn’t provide the same watershed moment, but ours seems to mark the point at which we start looking forward to the next year.

Those of you who were at this year’s conference will have seen the standard that is set in 1090 conferences and it is that which we are planning to achieve for Telford. You will also have seen our promotional video, an attempt to lighten up the event and to add some humour. Feedback to the video has been excellent and those who were not at Telford will soon have the opportunity to see what I am talking about. Please put March 6th – 8th 2015 in your diaries, we plan to make it a memorable weekend.

I would like to thank all those Faringdon friends who have driven me on club visits over the last few months. Relief from driving is one benefit, but friendly company on late night returns from the other end of the District is equally appreciated. Ian Lloyd has contacted me about 2014/15 schedule. Any help would be appreciated, but we are all volunteers and please do not feel under any obligation.

Apart from Telford next March, there are two other dates for your diaries if possible:

June 28th – This is District Handover when I take over the chain of office. This will be at The Oxford Hotel, Wolvercote and will be a 3 course meal with entertainment from The Cotswold Voices. Formalities will be kept to a minimum. Price will be £29 per ticket and it would be great to see as many friends from Faringdon there as possible. Official notices about this will be coming out shortly.
