NURSERY MAKEOVER

AFTER Lindsay’s story...

It had been nearly seven years, and we had come to the conclusion that we would always be a family of three. But, just as we’d given up hope, we found we were pregnant! We were euphoric, particularly our wee boy who had been desperate to have a brother or sister – he actually wanted an older brother, but we keep explaining that ship has sailed. As our dreams became reality, it was obvious that we were going to have to make a significant effort to make space for the baby. We have three bedrooms but over the years the third bedroom had become a dumping ground and our storage options were limited. Thankfully help was at hand. At The Big Day Out last October, I listened to Yvonne Hills talking about her new interior design business (Bloom Interiors). The thing that attracted me to Yvonne was that she was not aiming at high end properties; rather, she was focusing on ‘normal’ families with limited time, space and budgets. Yvonne came round and we chatted about our thoughts. From there she produced four mood boards, each with a different colour scheme, furnishings and accessories. She happily took into account the furniture and carpet we already had, our need to keep the costs down, and our desire to keep things simple.

When we had first thought about the baby’s made MAY / JUNE 2014 BEFORE

room, we had just assumed a fresh coat of something fairly neutral. So it was quite a shock to realise that we both favoured the design with bright red stars and red accessories. We would never have considered such a bold choice had we been left to our own devices, but we loved it! Decisions made, our next step was to get a decorator and a blind-maker on board. We had previously used Dekor Style when we converted our garage, and had been blown away by the quality of their work and their astoundingly low prices. So it was a no-brainer to get them to do the decorating. We had never had blinds made before so Yvonne gave us quotes from three different suppliers. Ultimately we went with Liz Henderson who did a really lovely job. After much effort, shifting boxes, bags and filing around the house, we finally found a floor! The room has been designed, decorated and dressed beautifully. Tom is particularly proud of the bunting he helped make! Thanks to Bloom Interiors we now have the perfect nursery and we’re just waiting for the impending arrival…
